What to expect in math this year
Your child will be responsible for keeping all the notes for each unit in a plastic 2 pocket folder. He/she should be taking this folder home every night. If you your child is struggling on the practice for that night, have them pull out their notes from that day and look through the examples with them. In many instances the homework looks identical to the notes. Notes for each unit are graded on test days and count as a quiz grade. The students must have all the notes completely filled out and in order to receive a 100. Students that are absent are responsible for getting the materials they missed when they return and filling in the information.
Homework is designed to give your child a little practice on what we did that day and review some important topics taught previously. Each practice worksheet should take the average student about 10-15 minutes to complete. Please let me know if your child is becoming frustrated with the workload and is requiring a substantial amount of time to complete it. I can maybe set up some extra help time before they go home for the day.
Please check Progress Book regularly with your child. I try to have things updated on a regular basis and not be more than a day or two behind. This is an excellent tool to monitor your child's progress and opens the door for communication between us as well.
