English-Language Arts

Our curriculum goals in English-Language Arts reflect the New York State Standards. Students will read, write, listen, and speak for information and understanding; for literary response and expression; for critical analysis and evaluation; and for social interaction. We offer students real-life opportunities to use reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills.

Based upon the age of the children in our classrooms, we use different methods to achieve our goals. A variety of activities can enhance the students’ ability to read, write, listen and speak. The students in grades Kindergarten through grade six are learning to read using the Scholastic series as their developmental reading textbook. In addition, reading instruction is being supplemented through the use of ARL (Assured Readiness for Learning).
