UPK
(Universal Pre-Kindergarten) began when teachers started seeing
many at risk and low-scoring children at kindergarten screening. It is
available to children who will be 4 years old by December 1 of the school year.
A UPK day is 2-1/2 hours long and filled with activities designed to develop
gross and fine motor skills, an understanding of basic mathematical concepts,
and an appreciation for literature, music and art. UPK also offers many
opportunities for the students to acquire and develop effective communicative
and social skills necessary to interact positively with others. |
