Music

We provide children with the basics of music learning in correlation with the National and State standards.  This includes music literacy, history, and the aesthetics of music making.  We achieve our goals by teaching activities that include singing, playing instruments, creative movement, improvisation, composing within guidelines, reading music, listening, evaluating, music theory, music history and how music relates to ourselves and the world around us.  We also provide several performance experiences, including holiday concerts, plays, chorus and band.

We achieve our goals by teaching the students to properly care for and create sound with a musical instrument, read music notation, both rhythm and pitch, perform a variety of music in various styles and forms, participate in both large and small performance groups.  Our yearly concerts include a winter and spring concert, D.A.R.E. Graduation, and Sixth Grade Graduation.  Many students also participate in the NYSSMA Solo Festival at Suny Potsdam.

Art

Our curriculum goals are for students to actively enjoy the art process and to be knowledgeable of many forms of art.  Students will work, learn, explore, experience and grow by assuming many different roles.  We look at art history, explore other countries and expand our programs to include regular classroom areas.

We actively engage all students, Pre-K through 6, in creating an open forum for children’s ideas and imagination.  We achieve our goals by encouraging freedom of expression while developing technical skills (fine motor, media-based skills, etc.), by tapping many resources: books, the internet, videos, classroom units, local museum, and visiting artists .

Physical Education

We teach students to manage their personal and community resources, i.e. life time activities. Students will have the necessary knowledge and skills to maintain their physical awareness and fitness. Safety is stressed throughout all activities,  appropriate activities are designed for each age level. Integral links to classroom curriculum, were created. We achieve our goals by building and expanding on their backgrounds. We introduce students to a wide variety of activities and information that they may not otherwise experience. We incorporate Assured Readiness for Leaning into our kindergarten curriculum. We focus on a lifetime of physical fitness for all students.
